Meeting of the Institute of St. V. Pallotti - Febbruary 2010 |
On 11 February 2010 began a cycle of seminars promoted by the Institute of St. Vincent Pallotti in Rome. The leading theme for the year 2010 is: "St. Vincent Pallotti: Priest and Apostle". The first conference, presented by Francesco Todisco SAC, General Counselor of SAC, was a reflection on the theme "The priestly life in Rome at the time of Pallotti". The speaker outlined the political and social situations of the Italian peninsula in the early nineteenth century. This was not only a period of political and social turbulence, following the changes that took place after the French Revolution, the uprisings against the secular governing of the Church and the Pope, but also involved attempts to look for new changes in political and social life. St. Vincent Pallotti, a Roman priest, had participated in the affairs of the city of Rome at that time, in the pastoral options of the Roman Church and in the life of priests and religious. He had taken several initiatives in line with the pastoral works of the diocese of that time. His life as a priest and apostle was part of the number of priests who were distinguished for their life and ecclesial commitment at that time. The greatness of St. Vincent Pallotti is found in the intensity of his relationship with God, in the passionate imitation of the person of Jesus, devotion to Our Lady and the love for the Church when she suffers. A striking characteristic of his priestly life finds its expression in the charity lived as self giving, as source and motivation for the personal apostolate and of the community. These are the perennial values that St. Vincent Pallotti cultivated and lived in the whirlwind of his time, and inherited by those who are inspired by his charism. di Gesù Cristo, nella devozione verso la Madonna e nell'amore verso la Chiesa quando essa è causa di sofferenze. |

From 19 to 25 January 2010, the Rector General, Fr. Friedrich Kretz and the General Consultor, Fr. Jacob Nampudakam, accompanied by Fr. Augustine Varickakal, Provincial Rector, visited the new mission of the Epiphany Province (NA) in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, in the north eastern part of India. This State of about one million people is very open and disposed to the Good News. The mission was opened about three years ago and three confreres are presently working here. As this mission shows a very good possibility for the growth of the Church and the Society, the Province intends to invest more personnel and resources for its development. A very significant moment of the visit was the celebration of the Solemnity of our Founder on 22 January 2010 in the newly constructed church at Siyum, presided over by the Rector General and participated by many parishioners coming from the distant villages. |

The Generalate community, together with other members of the Union of Catholic Apostolate, gathered together on 29 January 2010 in our church of SS. Salvatore in Onda for thanking the Lord for the presence and work of Fr. Bruno Bayer. He has lived for many years in the Generalate, dedicating himself to the study on Vincent Pallotti and specially took care of the edition of the Letters of our holy Founder. In fact, the eight and the last volume is being printed and will be published shortly. The Rector General, Fr. Friedrich Kretz, in his homily during the Mass of Thanksgiving presided over by Fr. Bruno Bayer, underlined the extraordinary dedication and patience with which Fr. Bruno Bayer worked all these year and thanks to his efforts, today the entire Pallottine family is able to know Pallotti more profoundly. The letters reveal the true face of Pallotti, as human being and priest. Fr. Bruno Bayer will leave the Generalate by mid February and will continue to nurture his passion for our Founder by translating the most important Letters of Pallotti into German.

Solemnity of St. Vincent Pallotti |
Within the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, held from 17 to 25 January 2010, the Pallottine family in Rome celebrated the Solemnity of St. Vincent Pallotti. The motto of the Week was the words of Jesus: "You are witnesses to it" (Lk 24, 48). Representatives of all the pastoral and apostolic realities of the great Pallottine Family, that is the Union of Catholic Apostolate, gathered together before the altar of St. Vincent Pallotti during the days of the Solemnity. The prayer for the beatification of Elizabeth Sanna, close associate and spiritual daughter of Pallotti, was the starting point to the Week of Prayer. The experience of the Eucharistic celebration in Syro Malabar Rite took the participants to India, particularly to the State of Kerala, where our Pallottine confreres and sisters are working since years, always strengthening the Pallottine presence. In another evening the students of the Urbanian College of Propaganda Fide were able to meet with their Spiritual Father, St. Vincent Pallotti and, following the tradition, one of them, this time coming from Cameroon, read out a letter to the Saint thanking specially for the work of evangelisation that the Pallottines have carried out in his country. Numerous members of the Union in Rome were always present at the celebrations. Various pastoral realities like the apostolate of schools, hospitals and parishes were represented and found time to come together and pray at the altar of our Founder.
The central moment was the Eucharistic celebration on the Solemnity of St. Vincent Pallotti on 22 January 2010, presided over by Msgr. Ernesto Mandara, Auxiliary Bishop of Central Rome and concelebrated by the confreres and some of the parish priests in Rome. The liturgy was animated by the UAC choir. During the liturgical celebration it was recalled how St. Vincent Pallotti, with his apostolic zeal and spirit of sacrifice, considered himself part of the Roman clergy and responded to the pastoral needs of his time.
